The Canada/Israel Autism Research Initiative (CIAR) is an initiative that began out of an interest to foster collaborations between Canadian and Israeli researchers in Autism in a proactive way.
To convene a group of people together who have interest and passion for building a centre such as this. It will be a group of stakeholders, researchers, investors, parents to determine what is feasible, and the “Right” strategy for building a long term, sustainable place.
Why Canada and Israel?
There was a synergy that happened almost instantly in thinking about the benefits the two countries could bring to each other. The Canadian Autism research community offers a remarkable way that a group of people do research, with great results. The way in which the researchers collaborate, meet, share data to advance the science of Autism is unique. Canada is renowned for its Autism research throughout the world and provides a model for ways of working together to advance the science as a whole. The Initiative’s goal is to extend the reach of Canada’s impact in autism research.
The Israeli scientific community is known for its excellent skills and discoveries, innovation and advances and unique and diverse populations with diverse issues. The Israeli Autism research community is small, innovative, and growing but needs a boost. It needs a boost in attention to bio-medical issues in Autism, in partnerships worldwide, in access to resources and new funding models, and commitment to future innovation. One of the Initiative’s objectives is to help Israel build capacity, build expertise in Autism and to create the infrastructure for autism research in the future.
What is the Goal?
The Initiative’s mission is to connect Canadians and Israelis to each other, provide access to shared resources with diverse and unique populations, create synergies for funding opportunities, and to provide models for future collaborative projects in Autism.
Ultimately, our long term vision is to foster innovative collaborative global research in Autism, foster future collaborative centres of Autism research in Israel, and attract the brightest talents to Canada and Israel.
